Use your CSM Certificate

The CSM Certificate can further your education and career

You can send a transcript with your CSM Certificate to colleges to get credit. At all community and technical colleges in West Virginia and West Virginia University (WVU), the CSM Certificate earns college math credit that satisfies the general education math requirements for an associate or bachelor's degree! You can also send it to any other college to be evaluated for credit.

You can include your CSM Certificate on your resume to show that you have High Performance skills that employers are looking for. Excel Together West Virginia is gaining recognition with employers across the state for use in hiring.

Earn college math credit

Using the CSM Certificate for college credit saves you time and money, and builds your confidence - you can start college with your math in the rearview mirror!

If you are attending a partner college, contact your college's admissions department or your counselor to find out what math requirements CSM might meet for your program - for some degree programs, CSM is the only math you need!

If you aren't planning on attending a partner college, you can probably still get college credit for CSM! You can send a transcript to any college in the United States with your CSM Certificate to be evaluated for credit, and the American Council on Education recommends that colleges accept the CSM Certificate as college math credit.

Many national online colleges already accept CSM for credit. Learn more here.

Using your CSM Certificate for work

The CSM Certificate demonstrates employability skills

The CSM Certificate certifies that you have the High Performance employability skills that are needed in every sector (manufacturing, healthcare, IT, etc.) and every position, from frontline to manager.

All employers want applicants to be able to show these skills. A survey of WV manufacturers showed that employability skills rate even above job-specific manufacturing skills in what they value most.

The CSM Certificate is recognized in WV

Excel Together West Virginia is working with organizations across the state to encourage employers to recognize the value of the CSM Certificate in hiring decisions.

Excel Together West Virginia is also working with a number of industry associations to reach out to members for use of CSM in hiring and employee upskilling.

Adding the CSM Certificate to your resume

When applying for a job, make sure that the employer knows that you've earned your CSM Certificate!

  • Add the CSM Certificate to your resume! You would normally place CSM in a section called "Certifications" (this typically might go after the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections. There, you could put on a line: "CSM Certificate of High Performance (college-level quantitative reasoning and employability skills)", where the CSM Certificate is a link (you can copy the quoted text out of this webpage). Here is an example where Certifications is between Work Experience and Skills:
  • Share your Credly digital badge! The CSM Certificate comes with a free Credly digital badge that you can share on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter. For instructions, click here.
  • Check back in summer 2023 for a list of employers that recognize the value of the CSM Certificate in their hiring decisions.

What if an employer doesn't know about the CSM Certificate?
